Gift for friends first child?

Question

What would be a nice gift to give to my friend for the birth of her first child? This is the first of my friends to have children so I'm not sure what would be a good thing to give. (it's a girl)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

daipers,wipes,spits rags, diaper bag, bottles, playpen, crib,crib sheets,and go to wall-mart and go to the baby section and anything in there is good for a gift.... exspacily bath produts and rash crams eally everything is a good gift

One of my really good friends got me a diaper bag and a gift certificate to get my daughter's picture done.  I loved it, it was a very creative gift.  Lets see what else I really enjoyed getting.......oh yes, I got a boppy and a blanket in the same pattern (green and brown with elephants I believe from target), it was absolutely adorable!  Plus I used the boppy very often, especially since I breastfed.  You could also put together a pretty wicker basket or some basket filled with things like a cute stuffed animal, diapers, rash cream, wipes, baby tylenol, baby wash and shampoo, lotion.  There is the possibility to give her for more keepsake items, such as a little christmas ornament that says baby's first christmas or something like that.  Or you could just put together a few outfits.  Things like that are great, and I know that she'll appreciate anything you give her!

Oh, as a possible additional gift or inexpensive gift could be coupons, like redeemable for babysitting services, things like that.

You know those wicker baskets they sell at walmart, target, and everywhere else?  They usually come in an assortment of colors and some even have liners and come in a set.  I would buy a white wicker basket with a pink, yellow, or green liner and fill it with diapers, some clothes, wipes, blankie, and a stuffed animal, and maybe even a picture frame or photo album for a baby girl.

If you knit or crochet you could make some booties , hat  or sweater for the fall.  I always loved getting hand made items my my babies it meant so much to think that they but so much of them selves in to the gift.

One of the best gifts I got when I had my daughter is a rocker glider..it has been a life saver..plus it is comfy and my husband and I always fight over who sits in it!..they run from about 100+... mine was on the lower end...I know it is expensive but go in on it with some one else! Or get some pampering stuff for Mom..My sister in law ( who is 15) got me a bag filled stuff to have in the hospital...like shampoo and condtionor....slippers..hair ties..nice cream...I brought it with me and it was a life saver!
