Question:

Gift for my brother?

My brother is standing up for me at my wedding. I have struggled with whether to get him a groomsman gift since it is usually a "thank you" gift and he hasn't done anything for the wedding, my parents bought his suit and paid for his travel and everything else. The ony thing I have asked is for him to help me work on a song (he has some DJ equipment) but he said he was too busy. So I really don't want to get him anything, but my fiance thinks we should because it's traditional. So I need help on what to get him. I can't get him anything to do with alcohol (like a flask or mug) because he just got a DUI. He doesn't have a desk or anything to get a clock or something like that for, he is a waiter. All of the "traditional" groomsmen gifts just don't seem to fit him and I don't really know what kind of things he likes ( I'd like to be, but we aren't that close). Any suggestions?

  1. The bridal party gift is to thank them for standing up in your wedding,  not for the "work" they have done.  You can possibly get him a gift card somewhere, like Best Buy or iTunes.

  2. A photo frame and after the wedding put a photo of the two of you in it.

  3. Your fiance is right, if he's standing for you at the wedding, you should get him something, just like the others in the wedding party (snubbing him in front in everyone is not a good idea).

My suggestion is to get him a Best Buy gift card? Perhaps a Swiss Army knife set? My fiance got his GMs this very nifty and useful multitool and magnalite set by Army swiss knife. It was not expensive (about 30 a piece) and all boys love tools.

    Good luck and congrats

  4. You'd like to be closer to him? Do you have any old pictures of the two of you when you were little? If so, get a double frame and put the old picture in it and put a note in the other side telling him how you feel and explaining that the space will be filled with a picture of the two of you at the wedding.

  5. You could get him a pen with his name engraved on it. Its cheap like $20. I can see where you're gooms comming from because the gifts suppose to be from him. Or you could get him cufflings for the day, if he plays card you can get in a steel card holder with his name on it. I am in Canada and we have a store called personal engraved and you can get anything. You could also get him a cigar holder and put a cigar in it and a "thank you" on it. They dont have to be something he will use everyday. My guy got a pocket knife and a pocket watch for the wedding he was in. He would never use that stuff but it was a nice thought.

  6. I think a nice looking cheap watch, a nicer pen, or maybe a gift certificate for gas or something
