So the last day of school is approaching and I'd like to get my son's first teacher a gift. My son is ADHD and has two other pull out teachers (for academic reason). He's been a handful this year and these ladies have been great with him. He's doing so much better but the road has been long and they have been very helpful!! Any ideas on gifts? Thanks.

  1. A gift, is just a thought. As a educator myself, I appreciate just a thank you in person, or a flower from the garden, or just card. Whatever, you give knowing it's from the heart. I have kept everything students have given me - if it's not edible.

  2. Bubble bath, flavored tea, some nice chocolates or tea cookies, and a CD of relaxing music.  Whatever you decide to give them, make sure that you include a letter or card expressing how much you appreciated their hard work this year and all of the time that they spent helping your son.  Trust me, a heartfelt thank you goes a long way.

  3. i would say a gift card to a teacher supply store. people don't realize how much teachers spend out of their own pocket on things for the classroom. a gift card to a spa would also be a good idea!

  4. I teach middle school so I don't get many gifts. The one that will always stick out for me was a boy who I developed a bond with. He was having a lot of trouble and I recommended him for special ed testing. Turns out he had Ashbergers. Anyways, his family didn't have a lot of money so his mom went to walmart and got some fabric and made me a scarf. OMG I cried when he handed it to me....It means the world to me!

  5. Some of the best gifts students have given me are the ones that spoke from their hearts or those that showed they took note of the things I like outside of school.

If you know the teachers hobby you could get them something related to that.

My all time favorite gift from a difficult student was a framed photo of them with a poem entitled "Number One Teacher".  I have it hanging in my classroom and the next year I was asked to tutor the student.  I will always cherish that gift.

  6. An apple or a book about the pharmaceuticals and their phony diseases, like ADHD.

  7. Something bought thru a charity would be nice:

  8. As a teacher, the best "gift" I have received was a letter (from a parent of an ADHD kid) to my principal/school board, etc. commending my ability to deal with their difficult child.  If I were you, I'd type one up send it to administration and give a copy to the teacher.

You could include a small gift, but the letter would mean more than anything.  Don't get anything "teachery" for a gift, though.  My favorite gifts have been things like bushes for my garden, consumables like brownies, gift cards, and even a really cool purse (which would be hard to buy for someone else).

Let's hope you get another great teacher(s) next year!
