My one and only daughter is getting married and I want to give her a special gift at her bridal shower. I only have two weeks. Any ideas would be great! I am clueless!

  1. You might gather your favorite family recipes and put them in a book. You could also get her some of the cooking utensils or other specialty items that are required to prepare them.

  2. My mom gave me a Jim Shore Welcome Pineapple.  I just love it, and I think of her every time I see it..which is every time I walk in the door :)

  3. Her favorite ornament (when she was growing up) from your christmas tree ornament collection for when your daughter has her first christmas tree of her own.

A piece of jewelery of yours that was given to you from another family member or even a piece given to you from your husband.  An old engagement ring that was your grandmothers or something like that would be neat.

A beautiful white nightgown and matching robe set (something that she could wear for her honeymoon night)

A garter for her to wear on her wedding day

Pictures in a book or frame of you and your husband on your wedding day as well as the grandparents on their wedding day

  4. Send over some exotic male dancers. I did this for my daughter a few years ago, and she loved it!

  5. Give her a memory box that she can keep all of the special keepsakes from her wedding in.  I purchased one for my daughter at Bombay.  It was a lovely wooden box.  It came with a plate that could be engraved and mounted on the front/top of the box.  I wouldn't know where to get one now, since Bombay closed their stores.

  6. My, I wish we had some details about what she likes or her style. A Lladro or Nanno[forgive my spelling] or Lennox[Lennox has some neat wedding stuff] keepsake porcelain bride and groom? A set of wedding scrapbooks and photo albums, and a gift certificate to Michael's to buy the scrapbook stuff? Keepsake quality candlesticks to use on her cake table at the wedding, and then for her dining room table? A beautiful anniversary clock? A drop dead gorgeous negligee. not too s**y, just beautiful? A tri-fold frame with your Mom's, yours, and  her wedding picture? A collection of tried and true family recipes? A bottle of really good champagne for their first anniversary? I would have said custom toasting glasses, but unless you know how to etch glass...too late.

In addition to the tear jerker present, did you think to give a joke gift, that really isn't a joke? Fill a kitchen garbage can with the right size garbage sacks, and kitchen cleaning stuff, like utility brushes for glass washing, potato scrubing, basting, even a bottle of pine-sol, use your imagination, and make sure it isn't so full you can't carry it. Or get a big plastic laundry basket and stuff it with dryer sheets, stain pens, clothes pins, nice hangers etc. Gee a friend even got an aluminum garbage can that had been painted with a design, stuffed with kitchen stuff. She also got a set of pink tools, screwdivers, the like. Go for the humorous stuff to fill these things with, if some sponges and a tin of Comet would cause a chuckle, go for it.

With only 2 weeks, too late to commision any handmade heirlooms, like an afgan, or a quilt. Probably too late for Things Remembered at the Mall. How about a heart locket with an inscription about a daughter, or always love you, Mom,  or Mom and Dad?

There is always the silly and frivelous present, that is her favorite thing, like an icecream maker, and scoops and bowls and a selection of toppings and sprinkles. Or snow cone maker with extra flavores and cups, or a popcorn maker and Orville Redenbacker corn and oil, and salt, and huge bowl with popcorn written on it. Or my favorite, a gift basket with acryllic blankets, popcorn and snacks and cocoa, and a gift card to Blockbuster, and if they have a fireplace, some of those firestarter pinecones or long matches. And call it Snuggle Night.Go to Michaels for the basket and shrink wrap.
