Question:

Gift ideas for a mentor?

So my mentor from a college-high school mentoring program has totally been there for me for the past few years and has been a great help throughout my college admissions process. As a going away present, she gave me her school's college sweatshirt, and now I'm not sure what to get her in return! I was thinking a sweatshirt from my college, but it doesn't seem like a mere sweatshirt is enough to express my gratitude towards her.

She is going to France for a semester, and I was thinking of possibly getting her something for her trip

Any ideas?

  1. WOW shes going to France thats so cool why not suprise her with a new video-cam or better than that why not go to France and find her shouldnt be hard to do...or you could give her a big teddy bear with your college sweatshirt on it.

  2. A bound (leather or faux leather) notebook

A nice (but not hugely fancy / expensive) pen.

A book of interest, eg if she loves Shakespeare then a hardcover version or Shakespeare sonnets or such

Some travel "sugar lollies".  As a child whenever there was a big trip to be done you'd get a tin with sugar lollies / candies usually dusted in icing sugar to suck.

Something so they can take pictures of their family etc with them.

Go for something personal but not hugely expensive.  It really is the thought that counts!

  3. Traditionally, mentors are not given lavish gifts, as they perform this work to help themselves and self-actualize. If you don't know what self-actualize means you can look it up in Wikipedia. A disposable camera is cool. Or a couple since she will want to take photos. What about a travel bag, that she can put over her shoulder and keep pads in? A French to English dictionary? Good luck.
