Gift ideas for attendants?

My friend is getting married next month! She got the bridesmaids pearl earings, a necklace and a bracelette. She would like to do something for the three other attendants she has. What are some ideas that won't out due the bridesmaids gifts? One girl is from out of town. they are in their early 20's. She kind of would like something more personal then gift cards.

A gift certificates for a custom portrait drawing/painting of each of them.

I'm considering getting my girls really pretty dress flats for the reception, maybe with some comfort insoles! Depending on how dressy her reception will be. A lot of the wedding catalogues right now offer some beautiful chrome mirror compacts that can be engraved. I'm 21 and I thought about getting one of those for myself. Summer totes made of canvas are also something that can be personalized or not and are really something they can use and not just stick in a drawer as a "memory". If she really wants something "personal" she may want to take just about an hour or so of her day and find something inexpensive that will touch their little hearts. Something not too big, that fits each individual.

But here's the real question:

how do you have attendants that aren't Bridesmaids?  What are they?  3 personal attendants?
