Question:

Gifting an "out of state" Gun in California?

My brother is in the USMC, stationed in California, and has a valid California handgun license. He also already owns several handguns. I am a resident of Nevada, and own a really cool Stainless Steel gun that he has always had his eye on. Are there any issues with giving him this gun for his birthday, provided that he properly registers it with the state? BTW, my gun was bought in NV and he is not a California resident, but there on orders from the military. Legally, he is a KY resident.

  1. If the handgun you wish to transfer to him is on the California Department of Justice's List of Safe Handguns for Sale, then yes, you can transfer it to him.

However, YOU must be a current resident of California to transfer the gun to him.

  2. Give it to him in KY

Take a nice photo of it, mail it to him in a Birthday card

and tell him he will get in on his next trip home.

Commiefornia does not even need to know it exists

  3. It needs to be a legal california gun.

Also It needs to be shipped to a licensed FFL Dealer.  Unless he collects it in person.
