Question:

Gifts for parents of the bride/groom

i'm getting married in a few weeks, and i was wondering if we should buy our parents gifts (keep in mind, we each have divorced/remarried parents, so that equals 4 parents each)...

we're paying for the wedding ourselves, and none of our parents (aside from my step mother, who I plan on getting a gift no matter what) is helping with any of the planning

since we're paying for everything we're very short on cash, and I don't know what I would get them anyway

if we must get them something, I was thinking a nice necklace for the ladies, with maybe a small diamond and their birthstone in it, and for the guys I have no idea...the bridesmaids are getting jewlery to wear for the ceremony and the groomsmen are getting flasks, but 2 of the fathers don't drink....

any ideas? thanks!

  1. Actually i have heard of gifts for the bridemaids and maid of honor and corsages for the mothers. But its your day not thiers. If you want maybe a nice bottle of wine and a card. But that is all.

  2. I too am getting married (in September) and all the gifts that I have come across are either cheesy, look cheap, or just more "stuff" that my parents don't need.  I am planning on getting both sets of parents a Southern Magnolia tree to be planted in their yards.  It is a beautiful tree (and smells really nice) and they can watch it grow along with our marriage.  I am having it delivered along with a planting service so they don't have to do anything.  I found the trees that are about 5 feet tall right now and are $28.00 each.  To me, it looks A LOT more expensive than it actually is.  Good luck!

  3. Maybe money clips with their initials on it?  Or handkerchiefs with there initials on it.  You can find some really nice gifts from www.thingsremembered.com.  They are also rather inexpensive.

  4. go to www.orientaltrading.com and click on the wedding section. they have lots of great gifts including champagne glasses with mother/father of the bride/groom. I know two dads dont drink, but they'll toast with something at the reception right? if not they have other great gifts!

    congrats btw.
