I am traveling to Russian this summer to visit some students there. They range age from 20-28. I know a few of them from when they visited me last year and they are both male and female. What kind of gifts or souvenirs would Russian in their 20's like to receive from America? They brought me metroshka, dengi, vodka, wooden spoons, candy, and music.

  1. WELL IF YOU ASK ME I'M RUSSIAN SO I PRETTY KNOW THE CULTURE SO THEY MAYBE LIKE SOME CIGARS IF SOME PEOPLE SMOKE OR VODKA,RUSSIAN TEA,CANDY,TOYS,FOLK DANCING MUSIC,MOVIES,OR BOOKS,POSTCARDS OF AMERICA.

          P.S  RUSSIA RULES!!!!!!!

  2. Bring something that represents where you live in America. For example; if you live in the northeast, perhaps some real maple syrup and then perhaps explain how it's made. You can buy small bottles of this. You get the idea. Anyhow, postcards from your area also might be a good idea. If the students speak and understand English, perhaps a DVD with an American comedy that isn't shown here such as The Office or Seinfeld. In spite of one of the other answers, most all DVD players sold in Russia are zone free and also play both PAL and NTSC formats. But as previously stated; most American films are available here already, but not the better American comedy programs.

Maybe make it personal and make your own DVD about your area, family or interests.

Stay away from typical symbols, most of these that you buy in the States say "Made in China" on them anyhow. In Russia this is another way of say "c**p".

  3. Something very American. Like a handgun, a Confederate flag, a Ku-Klux-Klan outfit or box of fried donuts with bacon.

  4. A dreamcatcher, yankee candle, your favorite sport's team cap, a sweatshirt with a logo (like univerisity or USA), a movie, CDs...

  5. Okay don't listen to davespeedy. Why would you buy vodka to bring to people who live in the country known all throughout the world for vodka? Makes no sense...

Anyway, I would think they'd really like things related to Native Americans.  Like the girls would love to have some "authentic" Native American jewelry.  You can buy some dreamcatchers (as the answerer above mentioned) or other Native American artwork, etc.

Again, as the answerer above said, anything with an obviously American logo (sports team, university, etc.) would be cool.  Also, think of what things your area is best known for. Many areas in the US have tourist info offices where they sell souvenirs.  You could always pick up a few souvenirs from your local tourist office to bring to them.

Music is kind of iffy, as in Russia you can buy MOST American music, and it's cheaper there thanks to p****y.  DVDs from the US don't work in Russia, since Russia is a different zone.  So I wouldn't bother with any electronic media.

  6. It's hard to tell, because they have everything that you have here in America but more expensive. It depends on a person.
