For the most part, it was believed that Beckham would be one of the three senior players in the team. However, with only three players above the age of twenty three being allowed to play in the team, Stuart Pearce went on to pick http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Micah-Richards-c25259 over Beckham. The manager then revealed that he made this decision to get some defensive cover into the squad.
As a result, the three senior players who will represent Great Britain are, Ryan Giggs, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Craig-Bellamy-c9471 and Micah Richards.
Giggs is amongst the numerous fans and players who have been dissapointed by Pearce’s decision. Just about everyone was looking forward to watching the golden boy of English football play in the Olympics, but based on the way things are going, they might get to see him play in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 when he plays his farewell match.
When talking about the exclusion of Beckham from the squad, Giggs is quoted to have said: "As a former teammate and friend of David's, I'm immensely disappointed for him"
"I wish he was in the squad, but it's Stuart Pearce's http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 to pick a team that he feels can win the gold, and that's what he's done.”

"Unfortunately http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 isn't in that 18, but he'll take it on the chin. It's one of those things that just wasn't meant to be."
The United veteran then went on to talk about how excited he was to be a part of the Olympics, as the atmosphere in London was already starting to make him anticipate the matches and get excited to be a part of them.
He then went on to add: "Just coming to London and feeling the buzz around the place for the Olympics and seeing the signs everywhere has got me really excited.”

"It's a massive event and one that I'm looking forward to, and I'm sure the lads who are picked will go out and do the best they can."
