The Azzurri goalkeeper has stated that he always trusted La Roja to take the three points away from Croatia, and has stressed that the Nazionale will always remember the Spaniards.

The Azzurri needed a win over the Irish in their last game of the group stages in order to have any chance of qualifying to the next round.
Moreover, they also required the other Group C game between the Red Fury and the Blazers to not end in a stalemate, and the Spaniards won the match 1-0 to confirm their ticket to the knockout stage of the European Championship.
Buffon revealed that he refused to get distracted by the speculation surrounding them, and insisted that he was completely focussed on beating the Irish on the field.
The Azzurri goalkeeper insisted that his mental peace going into the game had a lot to do with his belief that Spain will have little trouble knocking out Croatia.
The Nazionale keeper mentioned that he expected the Roja to keep possession of the ball until the final whistle, but maintained that the last few minutes of the game was a nerve-wrenching experience for every Italian.
While talking to the press, the 34-year-old said:
“I’ve been relaxed for the last four days, as our only concern was our match. This is because I was absolutely convinced Spain would win their game and we must thank them. I was relaxed, as knowing Spain they would be likely to keep the ball for the final

The Nazionale keeper stressed that he has but little time left with his international side, but maintained that the contributions of Netherland and Spain will always be remembered by Italy in words of gratitude.
