Gil/Rosol overcome Delgado/Marray in the first round –
Suisse Open Gstaad 2011
Portuguese/Czech team of Frederico Gil and Lukas Rosol battled past Jamie Delgado and Jonathan Marray in three sets 6-3, 3-6, 10-4 in the first round of Credit Agricole Suisse Open at the Credit Agricole Arena in Gstaad, Switzerland
on Monday. The match lasted for an hour and two minutes.
Gil and Rosol came roaring into the match as they broke the Brits in the second game and held their next service game to take a 3-0 lead. The Portuguese/Czech pair did not lose any of their service games and maintained the lead
throughout the set, capturing it 6-3.
The unseeded team delivered 54 percent of the first serves and three aces in the opening set. Gil and Rosol had a very good conversion rate, winning an incredible twelve of the thirteen first service points and eight of the eleven
second service points in the first set. In comparison, Delgado and Marray had a better first serve percentage as the kept it at 59 percent but their second serves were poor, hitting three double faults and losing 56 percent of the second service points. The
British team failed to respond to Gil and Rosol’s powerful serves as they were able to win only one of the thirteen points on the first return and three of the eleven points on the second return in the first set. Gil and Rosol capitalised on one of the six
break point opportunities they created on Delgado and Marray’s serve and saved all the four break points they faced in the opening set.
Delgado and Marray fought back in the second set, breaking the Portuguese/Czech duo in the fourth game and consolidating on it to go ahead 4-1. The Brits served out the set at 5-3.
The 174th ranked team kept their first serve percentage at 54 percent and delivered three aces in the second set. Although, they could not improve their second service performance as they committed four doubles faults
and won just 46 percent of the second service points. Delgado and Marray won most of the points on the first serve, converting an amazing 93 percent of them into points in the second set. The Brits also improved their returns as they claimed 31 percent of
the points on them in the second set.
Delgado and Marray failed to carry on the winning momentum into the match tie-break as they lost a number of points on their serve, going down 4-10.
Gil and Rosol will meet Yves Allegro and Stephane Bohli or second seeds Christopher Kas and Alexander Peya in the quarterfinals.
