The injured Genoa striker has revealed that Italian National team gives him strong emotions; striker is hungry to play in the upcoming European Championship.
Alberto Gilardino has expressed his desire of returning to full fitness before the start of Euro 2012, and wants to be a part of the Italian National team once again.
While talking to Sky Sport Italia, the injured striker said:
“I hope to return to the international set-up soon.”
Gilardino recently picked up a thigh injury, and is ruled out of action for almost six to eight weeks.
The former Fiorentina striker revealed that he has strong emotions for Gli Azzurri, and he is hungry to return to the side as soon as possible. The 29-year-old insists that he will do everything possible for a comeback, and does
not want to miss the Euro 2012.
“The national team still gives me strong emotions and I want to feel those again as soon as possible. I’ll play my cards and then we’ll see what happens about Euro 2012.”
The Rossoblu striker has scored 17 goals in 47 appearances for the Nazionale, including a hat-trick against Cyprus in 2009. Unfortunately, he has not featured much since Cesare Prandelli has taken over as the manager of Italy,
having made just four appearances under him.
Gilardino has scored just once in the last nine games for his country, netting in the 5-0 victory over Faroe Islands last year.
The striker has joined Antonio Cassano and Giuseppe Rossi on the sidelines, and is a serious doubt for the upcoming Euro 2012. In the absence of the senior strikers, Prandelli handed starts to Alessandro Matri and Sebastian Giovinco
against the USA on Wednesday, February 29. The new forwards failed to make an impression, as Italy slumped to a 1-0 defeat.
Gilardino signed for Genoa from Fiorentina in the January transfer window for approximately 8 million Euros. The striker has made just four appearances for Marassi club, netting just a solitary goal so far.
