Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez enters 4th WBC youth title defence bout against Jaime Barboza – Boxing News
Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez, the current WBC Youth World middleweight champion, will enter the ring to defend his prestigious gold for the fourth time against Jaime Barboza, the former WBC Youth World light middleweight champion, in a 10-round skirmish on April
14, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Jalisco, Mexico and will be a part of the pay-per-view promoted by Eddy Reynoso of Canelo Promotions. The special event is named as ‘Camino a la Gloria’ or ‘Road to Glory’ and will witness two more championship
bouts.
The Saturday night show will be headlined by the encounter between Victor Terrazas and Rafael Hernandez with the winner becoming the number one contender for the WBC Silver super bantamweight gold. The bout with the vacant NABF bantamweight title up for
grabs between Jesus Ruiz and Christian Esquivel will co-headline the night.
Ramirez, 20, is the clear favourite not only because he is the champion and has defended his gold authoritatively against three number one contenders but also because he has an undefeated 20-bout win streak and has never lost even a single bout since the
inception of his professional career.
In addition, Gilberto, also known as the Zurdo, has collected 18 of his total wins by knockout, an aspect evident that he is a lethal knockout pounder and does not go easy on his opponents at all.
The Mexican 20-year-old has rattled the stacked middleweight division by his impressive pugilism and at this small age secures the world number 22 rank. His Saturday night opponent, Jaime Barboza, though has a bit more experience yet exhibits a very flawed
resume.
He has been in a total 23 bouts and emerged victorious in 17. Moreover, he has collected just eight wins by knockout. In the basic two facets, the win and the knockout ability, Barboza seriously lags behind Ramirez.
Another disturbing reason which diminishes Barboza’s chances to win is his tendency of losing almost all the divisional title bouts. Though he has won his country’s apex middleweight gold yet he has won just once the WBC youth world light middleweight gold.
After nailing Jose Pinzon, Barboza lost the WBC title in a second skirmish to Jose and recently lost two of his title bouts to an experienced Brian Magee and a rookie Jorge Navarro. All these facets, even before the bout, have unofficially dubbed Ramirez
as the winner of the bout.
As per Ramirez’s trainer and manager, the young Mexican proud most probably will move up into the division after this skirmish or will leave his home country since he has already nailed all possible surging middleweights in his country.
