Gilchrist admits his players failed to adjust to slow PCA track – Cricket News Update
Kings XI Punjab’s skipper Adam Gilchrist, on Thursday attributed his side’s eight wicket drubbing at the hands of Rajasthan Royals in an Indian Premier League, match to the slow and dry wicket at the PCA Stadium, Mohali.
Chasing a middling target of 146 to win, set by the Shaun Marsh led http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajinkya-Rahane-c970 and Sanju Samson’s impressive unbeaten knocks.
Earlier, after being put into bat, the home side was given a strong start by the Australian duo of skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-James-Marshall-c90362 posted 101 runs for the second wicket stand, but the middle order collapsed miserably, as the hosts ended up amassing an average total of 145 for 6. No other batsman could manage to entre double figures.
While speaking to media reporters after the eight wicket defeat, Gilchrist said that the wicket was very slow and dry and it was difficult to score run on it. The wicketkeeper batsman admitted that the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 bowlers adjusted to those conditions a lot better than his batsmen.
"Yeah, we had that foundation laid, I think the wicket was particularly slow and dry in comparison with anything we have played here during previous year. So different conditions, Rajasthan bowlers adjusted to those a lot better than we did as a batting team," the 41-year-old former Australian cricketer said at the post match press conference here in Mohali.
Asked what was the target in his mind after having shared a scintillating three-digit stand with Shaun Marsh, Gilchrist said, "We thought if we get to 150-160 it could be defendable, anything above 160 was going to be bonus, I thought. But their bowling line-up just really suited that (the wicket's slowness).”
"They were skilled enough to do that and do that well, that restricted our batting. It made very hard to hit a boundary and then our bowling is more sort of used to the faster pace of wicket here and big bounce and carry," the home skipper went on to add.
Kings XI Punjab have just five wins from 12 games and need to win all of their remaining four matches comprehensively to keep their chances alive of making the tournament playoffs.
