Gillian Ryan dominates Women’s 400m freestyle heats – Speedo Junior National Championships
Gillian Ryan of North Baltimore dominated the qualification rounds Women’s 400m freestyle on third day of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 15.
The 16-year-old Ryan served notice of her talent in the eight lap freestyle discipline as she overpowered her challengers in a wonderful manner for the fastest qualification spot of the event.
Ryan stayed considerably faster from her following swimmer and made her way to the finishing wall for top qualification spot of the event by producing a time of 4 minutes and 13.41 seconds.
She was followed by Allison Brown of Pleasanton Seahawks, who remained nearly five seconds apart and sprinted her way towards the finishing wall for second position with an effort of 4 minutes and 18.28 seconds.
Brown was followed by Katelyn Sowinski of Eagle Swim Team, who remained 1.08 seconds slower from her former finisher and finished her race in third best place by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 19.36 seconds.
Sowinski was chased by Cecilia Williams of Area Tallahassee and Taylor Katz of Sarasota YMCA Sharks, who engaged each other in a neck-to-neck swim for fourth position. The duo tried hard to overpower each other over the finishing end but failed to do so.
They suffered a loss of 0.11 seconds from their preceding finisher and posted an effort of 4 minutes and 19.47 seconds for a joint fourth.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Marissa Brown of Pleasanton Seahawks, who stayed 1.06 seconds apart and finished her swim in a time of 4 minutes and 20.53 seconds.
Brown was followed by Jessica Hespeler of CAC-CT, who stayed half body length apart and secured seventh fastest spot of the event by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 21.02 seconds.
Hespeler was traced by Alexandra Malazdrewicz of Una Ever-CO, who was only 0.16 seconds slower and reported a time of 4 minutes and 21.18 seconds.
In addition, Ryan was very excited with her fastest qualifying effort and expressed her desire of dominated in the playoff and winning gold medal of the event.
