Gillian Ryan seizes Women’s 400m freestyle gold – Speedo Junior National Championships
Gillian Ryan of North Baltimore seized gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on third day of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Wednesday, August 15.
Ryan, who qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal, met expectations of the crowd by achieving the same in the playoff. With her scintillating pace, she stayed in a significant lead over her opponents and tapped the wall for gold medal.
She continued her scintillating form throughout the discipline and proved her mettle for gold medal of the event by touching the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 07.26 seconds.
The champion was followed by Taylor Katz of Sarasota YMCA Sharks, who was nearly eight seconds behind and posted a time of 4 minutes and 15.05 seconds for silver medal.
Katz was chased by Allison Brown of Pleasanton Seahawks, who was nearly three body lengths apart and secured bronze medal of the discipline by producing a time of 4 minutes and 17.72 seconds.
Brown was trailed by Alexandra Malazdrewicz of Una Ever-CO, who remained one body length slower from her former finisher and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer with an effort of 4 minutes and 18.65 seconds.
Fifth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Cecilia Williams of Area Tallahassee, who remained half body length behind and appeared on the finishing end with a timing of 4 minutes and 19.21 seconds.
Williams was followed by Katelyn Sowinski of Eagle Swim Team, who remained 0.57 seconds slower and tapped the wall with a timing of 4 minutes and 19.78 seconds for sixth position.
Sowinski enjoyed a benefit of nearly 2.30 seconds over Jessica Hespeler of CAC-CT, who secured seventh position of the event by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 22.06 seconds.
Last position of the event was obtained by Marissa Brown of Pleasanton Seahawks, who concluded her race in eighth best place by posting a time of 4 minutes and 28.52 seconds.
In addition, Ryan was happy with her gold finish in the discipline and received huge appreciation from the crowd.
