Gillian Ryan snares Women’s 800m freestyle title – Speedo Junior National Championships
Gillian Ryan of North Baltimore snared gold medal of the Women’s 800m freestyle on day one of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Monday, August 13.
The 16-year-old Ryan shattered hopes of her opponents in the 16-lap freestyle discipline as she remained in a comfortable lead over her opponents and tapped the wall for gold medal.
With her stupendous effort in the distant freestyle event, Ryan enjoyed a lead of almost half pool length over her following swimmer as she tapped the wall with a timing of 8 minutes and 30.84 seconds.
She was followed by Brooke Lorentzen of Mission Viejo Nadadores, who remained 13.08 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing end as second fastest swimmer with a timing of 8 minutes and 43.92 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Allison Brown of Pleasanton Seahawks, who stayed almost four seconds slower and clocked an effort of 8 minutes and 47.31 seconds for bronze medal.
Brown was traced by Taylor Katz of Sarasota YMCA Sharks, who stayed 1.35 seconds behind and tapped the wall with a timing of 8 minutes and 48.66 seconds for fourth position.
Following that, the audience witnessed exhausting efforts of Megan Byrnes of CUBU-PV, who was nearly 3.50 seconds apart and clocked a timing of 8 minutes and 52.03 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Ellen Berdusco of Sarasota YMCA Sharks, who remained only 0.12 seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and hit the wall with an effort of 8 minutes and 52.15 seconds for sixth position.
Seventh best place of the race was achieved by Erin Emery of Sandpipers of Nevada, who remained half body length behind and touched the wall with a timing of 8 minutes and 52.96 seconds.
Emery was traced by Margaret D’Innocenzo of Crimson Aquatics, who remained 1.38 seconds slower and concluded her swim in a time of 8 minutes and 54.34 seconds for eighth position.
In addition, Ryan was extremely pleased with her form in the 800m event and collected her medal after the session.
