I will need to seal the rubber seal to the Housing and seal the housing to the transom, we do have a local West marine.

I would ask them but most them kids dont know a Transom from a head.

  1. All the above answers are givin' without knowing the make, year, and model.

Contact me if you like through this site and I will be able to walk you through the steps.

    35 years as marine tec.

  2. just use marine silicone, or 4200, I would not use 5200

  3. Use a marine grade sealant. When using sealants remember that using more is NOT better. Sealants work better when used in little moderation. When your ready to install the housing apply a bead that is about half the thickness of the housing. When everything is tightened down you should have a very minimum of excess coming out from the joint.

  4. I thought they sell specific gaskets for this purpose?

Anyway, if not, like the others said, a marinegrade silicone caulk or sealant.  5200 has tubes of this stuff.

  5. DO NOT USE 5200 !!! unless you want to PERMANENTLY attach it !!! 5200 is a forever adhesive !!!! you will damage something if you have to remove it. Use 4200 or whatever the manufacturer recommends... Look for something that is rated for use under water.

  6. It is called 5200 it comes in white and black it will be sold at west marine. It's a very popular sealant
