Gimmicks associated with free photography?

Has anyone ever traded a modeling session for prints with a photographer that is either developing a portfolio, or just doesn't have enough money to pay you? I was interested in getting some slightly nude photos, and found a photographer who will do it and give me prints, but how do I know that he isn't just a pervert looking to watch naked women? He has a website, but so does everyone and their mom it seems.

Ask him for a couple of reference and actually CALL those people.

Bring a friend along to the session and make sure someone else knows where you're going. Do NOT go by yourself!

Perhaps you'd feel more comfortable with a female photographer?
