Gio Ponti for the Breeders’ Cup Mile or the Churchill Downs on 5th November
Gio Ponti’s connections have not been able to pass on a verdict for his participation at the Breeders’ Cup Mile, they have not been able to decide that for themselves till yet. The option of contesting for the Churchill Downs on 5th November still
stays as an open opportunity.
"I must speak with his owners, but the Breeders' Cup Mile is probably the plan at the moment”, said Clement.
"There is, however, also the possibility of running him in the Breeders' Cup Classic on dirt, but that decision has not been taken yet”.
The six-year-old out of Tale of the Cat and Chipeta Springs has raced five times this season and has been ridden by R A Dominguez throughout this season. He has won once and has come second twice. Last that he participated in a race this season was on 8th
October at the Keeneland. The track had eight contestants on it with A P O’Brien’s Zoffany finishing in the end.
Gio Ponti was impressive throughout the race. The jockey however had to put in effort so that the pair could drive through some competition over one furlong out. The horse picked on more gear towards the end of the race and led towards the finish line, crossing
the wire before the rest could.
The second in the race was Thomas Bush’s Get Stormy who was being ridden by G K Gomez. He was able to put the leader under pressure and the jockey had to make some degree of effort for over two furlong out. Get Stormy then led for one furlong out only and
kept up with the performance in the final furlong eventually heading for the finish in the end.
Sidney’s Candy who finished the race third was trained by Todd Pletcher and was ridden during the race by J Rosario.
"Everything is good with the horse and he is back in New York in one piece”, added Clement.
"It was another fantastic run on Saturday and I am delighted with him”.
The connections are pleased with Gio Ponti, it is just that they are unable to reach the decision as far as the Breeders’ Cup Mile is concerned.
