Giofra succeeds in the Group 1 Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket
It was none other than the French bred Giofra, who raced brilliantly in the Group 1 Etihad Airways Falmouth Stakes (British Champions Series) and dominated the 1 mile track at Newmarket, completing it in an impressive time of 1 minute and 42.14 seconds.
Paired with jockey, Christophe Soumillon, the bay horse was neck in neck with the John Gosden trained, Elusive Kate, but managed to come out on top by a small margin of half-length. The charge of Alain De Royer-Dupre left the race as the victor and,
£90,736.00 richer.
The third place was secured by Siyouma, who fell ¾ of a length behind the runner-up.
The pace of the race was slow, set by Lay Time while, Joviality, followed in second, Golden Lilac followed the leaders, whereas Giofra was one of the runners stuck in the rear.
With two furlongs remaining, Elusive Kate picked up the pace with rider Frankie Dettori’s help, where she overtook, Lay Time. Christophe Soumillon moved Giofra to the outside, and the two fillies were neck to neck but, it was Giofra who prevailed.
Most of the focus was on Golden Lilac, who is currently trained by Andre Fabre and raced as a favourite.

Owned by Gestut Ammerland , the daughter of Galileo showed her impeccable skills at Longchamp in the Group 1 Prix D'Ispahan on 27th May, 2012, where she finished ¾ of a length ahead of, Cirrus Des Aigles.
Unfortunately, this race was a huge disappointment for the filly since she finished ninth out of ten runners and lost the victory by 10 ½ lengths.
Lay Time finished in eighth place where, Joviality ended up in last.
Nobody expected the daughter of Dansili to come out of the race as a winner but, she beat the odds. Foaled by mare, Gracefully, the runner has done extremely well with four victories in six starts.
On 29th April, 2012, the bay filly competed in the Group 1 Prix Ganay at Longchamp and, finished second to Cirrus Des Aigles, over the 1 mile and 2 ½ furlong track, where she was paired with jockey, Maxime Guyon.
Now, the Haras De La Perelle  owned filly will either compete in the Nassau Stakes  at Goodwood, the Grand Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe or the Prix de l'Opera.
