Giorgio Ascanelli retires from Toro Rosso – Formula 1 news
Toro Rosso has confirmed that their technical director, Giorgio Ascanelli has resigned from the team who remained absent since the 2012 German Grand Prix.
Ascanelli has been missing from the Faenza based team for quite a long time and there were many speculations that he had left the team.
Although, at that time, the team principal of Toro Rosso, Franz Tost discharged all the rumours in this regard and told that their technical director was on holidays. However, Tost has recently confirmed the retirement of Ascanelli and has paid tribute to all his work until now.
Furthermore, he said that the Italian has worked very hard for making the developments in the team while he said that they will always remember his contributions which are extremely valuable for them. In addition, he said that they are immensely pleased with all his efforts and they wish him best of luck for his life ahead.
“Over a period of almost five years, Giorgio has contributed positively to the development of our team,” Tost said. “Especially in difficult transition period from simple racing team to fully-fledged constructor he made an important contribution and his undoubted experience was very valuable to us. We would like to thank him for his efforts and wish him all the best for the future.”
On the other hand, Ascanelli expressed his gratitude towards his team and said that Toro Rosso is now in a very good position to make the essential advancement in the season ahead. He also said that he has really enjoyed working with the sister concern of Red Bull Racing and wished them all the best for the season ahead.
“We have sown the seeds for successful future and I think the team challenge is now to gain a stable presence in the upper mid-field and I wish all at Toro Rosso the very best for the future,” he added.
It will be important to mention that Red Bull’s sister team has scored 12 points in the season so far and is currently standing at 9th place in the constructors’ championship. Let’s see how they show up in the Italian GP this weekend.
