Giorgio Chiellini and Ricardo Montolivo shattered with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Republic-of-Ireland-c2987
Italian Internationals, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ricardo-c30950 Montolivo, are disappointed with the defeat against Republic of Ireland on Tuesday evening.
The Boys in Green beat Italy 2-0 in an international friendly at the Sclessin on June 7, 2011. The Italians created a host of scoring opportunities but failed to take their chances and slumped to a defeat as a result.
Chiellini is shattered by the defeat and believes that his team did not deserve to be on the losing side. The Juventus defender stated that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Giovanni-c14985 Trapattoni’s men played a defensive game and sat back in their own defence. The defender added that the goals
from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Keith-Andrews-c20525 and Simon Cox came with luck for the Boys in Green, as one of the goals was scored from a dead ball situation and the other was scored on the counter attack.
The 26-year-old is still shocked by the defeat and considers it as a shame for the former World Cup winners.
Talking to the reporters, Chiellini said, “It’s a shame. Ireland did pretty much nothing throughout and scored on a set play and on the counter. I still can’t understand how we managed to lose 2-0 after that performance from both sides.”
The former Fiorentina defender rues the missed chances and believes that his team came close to scoring on several occasions but could not find the final touch.
On the other hand, Chiellini’s teammate, Montolivo, is also disappointed with the defeat and believes that his team should have done better with their attacking displays. The Fiorentina midfielder added that his team managed very few shots on target despite
dominating the game throughout.
Montolivo said, “We wanted to do better than we did tonight, especially in attack, as we didn’t have enough shots on goal. Ireland were certainly set out well in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904, so we had to go wide and couldn’t even do damage with crosses. I think we overall played
fairly well, but couldn’t create the shots on target.”
The 26-year-old also lashed out on the opposition’s tactics and believes that it was very difficult for them to shake off a static unit.
