The Juventus defender brushed off any suggestions of Italy being intimidated by the reigning European and World Champions ahead of their tie in the opening match of Group C, and stated that it should be the other way around.
Cesare Prandelli’s men have not had the most ideal start to their European campaign with defeats in their warm up matches, along with injuries to a number of key players. A few players are carrying knocks like Andrea Pirlo, Mario

Despite the great dismay surrounding the Italian camp, Chiellini suggested that the support provided to them by their Italian fans was overwhelming, and has had a resounding effect on the team. He went on to state:
"The 10,000 who attended our training session yesterday evening [Tuesday] have given us new enthusiasm after a week that was not easy for us because of the many more or less legitimate attacks that we suffered.”
The former Livorno player was feeling great about the camaraderie within the Italian camp as he had been training with the group for a couple of days now. Chiellini is coming on the back of an injury lay off he suffered in the
Serie A match against Atalanta.
The Turin star further went on to comment on the quality of the opposition that they will be facing off in their opening match of the Euro 2012, and he was full of praise for their individual talents. However, he also suggested
that they were not unstoppable, and went on to comment:
"There’s no way to stop their individuality, but the important thing is to help each other out in every part of the pitch. We’ll have to limit their quality, acknowledging their strengths but also their weaknesses.”
