Giovanni Ramirez, main suspect in Bryan Stow beating arrested: Baseball News
It looks as if things may be starting to look good for Bryan Stow’s family after months of nothing, but depressing news. Giovanni Ramirez, was apprehended in a very dramatic, almost a movie-like raid by the SWAT officers in an apartment at the Rampart area
of Los Angeles. The area is approximately five miles from the Dodgers Stadium.
Ramirez, who is supposedly the main aggressor in the tragic beating that took place, has been booked for assault with deadly weapon and is held on a bail of a whooping US$1 million.
Dodgers Stadium is where the tragic beating of Bryan Stow took place. After the match between the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers, Stow was in the parking lot on his way back to his car when he was attacked by two men in Dodgers' gear. It
wasn’t a typical ‘hit and run’ kind of thing that followed, Stow was left in such a state that he had to be put in a medically induced coma to bring a halt to the brain damage he was undergoing.
The initial reward for any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the attackers was US$100,000. It was soon increased to $250,000 and the police got an increased number of tips and calls after that. Most of the leads were faked by people
who wanted rewards, but it looked like a call from one of the parole officers eventually led to the capture of one of the suspects involved.
The raid was anything, but quiet. One of the residents who lived across the street, known as Lorenzo described the scene as it unfolded. "It was loud enough to wake the whole neighborhood up, it was crazy. They had M-16s, full body armor; they shut the whole
street down. At first we went outside to see what was happening, but the police told us to go back inside very quickly."
The police credited Lamar Advertising Co. for providing three hundred billboards free of cost where sketches of the suspects were put up in prime locations throughout Los Angeles. They said that there was an unprecedented increase in leads and sources due
to the awareness came due to the billboards.
The arrest is a positive development for Stow’s family and a lot of other baseball fans out there who have been scared to go to ball games because of the violence that may ensue. Even though baseball is America’s favourite past time, no one is ready to suffer
permanent brain damage for the sake of watching their favorite team perform. Fans believe that if such an incident can happen to a forty two year old paramedic, who is a father of two just because he wore a jersey in support of his team, then no one is safe
anymore.
