Question:

Girl/Boy Scout Leaders! Do you pay just for the children on a trip like hayrides or also one adult per child?

We're going to do our first big trip this fall, and I want to let the parents know now (before we wrap up for the summer) that it's either prepaid just for the girls or will include one adult per child. I was wondering if you just pay for your troop/pack members or also an adult on things like this. I estimate it'll cost an extra $35 if we pay for an adult for each girl. Most of the parents would probably like to come and join in on the fun, so not sure if I should include them in the price.

** Our girls are also younger, around 7 years old.

Please let me know what you usually do.

  1. We pay for the girls and leaders or chaperone's to meet the safety wise ratios. Any other adult that goes pays their own way.

Some things the troop pays half and parents pay half. We do a lot of fun things with our troop and this helps the money go farther.

  2. Any adults that aren't leaders need to pay their own way.  The leaders already do enough for the troop already.

  3. I was Committee Chair for Cub Scouts and we never paid for the parents to go on trips - only scouts. We alos required at least one parent for the younger scouts (3rd grade and under) were required to attend, None of the parents complained about paying.

Keep these two things in mind when making your decision

    1) Can the troop afford to pay for all the parents?

    2) You will set precedence by paying for the parents and they will expect it every time you go on a trip.

  4. The only ones that you pay for is just the girls in the troop and troop leaders. All parents will have to pay there own way.

  5. You should have the parents pay their own way.  That is what our troop does.
