Girl in my class...?

On friday a student came into my class looking particularly unhappy. She seemed stressed but I didn't think anything of it. However once I started my lesson she put her head down for a while and then once she picked her head up she sat looking down at the floor not paying attention. She rested her head on her arm and pushed her hair in front of her face. She was sniffling I think that she was crying very softly. I'm not positive though. Earlier this year she had a tough time and was very depressed, however over the past month she has been getting much better and seems happy. But her actions on friday resemble her actions from earlier this year. Does it seem that she was just having a bad day or that she is may be falling back into the depression she was in previously? And should I confront her about her appearance on friday? I didn't get a chance after class because she sped out when the bell rang

  1. you need to call her parents and also let the counselor know at school.

if that kid kills herself and you noticed signs but didn't report anything, you'd feel horrible

  2. I teach middle school, and when I have a crying student, I usually ask if they are okay and if they want to go to the counselor. Sometimes, they will calm down and do the work. When it seems like the situation is a little more dire, I call the counselor to come down to the classroom if the student declines to go to her just so that the incident doesn't become a classroom spectacle. I usually never try to pry myself to see what is going on. I leave that up to the people that are trained to deal with those things, because I don't want to say or do anything to s***w things up any more than they may already be.

  3. just ask her whats wrong. if she curses you out just forget about it.
