Question:

Girl names: Why is "Eve" okay, but "Jezebel" isn't?

I love the name Jezebel, but it seems to have a lot of negative connotations due to the Bible character. However, Eve is a very common name and yet she isn't portrayed in a very good way in the Bible, either.

Anyways, I'm wondering- what do you think? Does it REALLY matter, if you love the name just as it is?

TIA

  1. I think it's because Jezebel is a horrible name and Eve is a cute name just my opinion

  2. i think its just hgow you feel about it, peopel will always have personal opinions.  like in muslim countries mohammed [spelling varies] or osama are common names and one of those is actually meant to relate to someone holy in the muslim religion.  but in america, people have negative assosiation and are weary.  so its all pretty much your opinion.  if you like it do it.  everyone is entitled to their opinion, just as yoyu are entitled to yours.

personally, jezebel gives me an association with flamboyance, but then again, its only me

  3. The only reason I prefer Eve is because Jezebel is a term that refers to a loose woman

  4. i just dont like jezebel ( the name nothing to do with the bible) but anyway it is whatever you like and are happy with who cares what other people think as long as you are happy with it. people dont like the names i picked out but i didnt care

  5. I like Eve but not Jezebel. Not because of the bible reference, but I personally don't like any names that end it -bel (Isabel, Annabel, Arabel, etc). Strangely enough, I do like Belle and Bella on their own. Why? I have no idea...

  6. It shouldn't matter of course but most people hear the name Jezebel  they relate it to something bad... would you want people to think that way of your child?

  7. Because while Eve made a mistake and owned up to it Jezebel was a flat out witch who rejected God. So much so that when the prophet threw her out the window, trampled her with a chariot, then let the dogs eat her flesh. When the dogs ate her they didn't touch her hands, because they had done so much evil.

I dont care for either name honestly, but knowing the bible stories as I do that is why the names are different.

    Eve came clean

    Jezebel didn't

  8. Go with the heart!! Love it! Embrace itt!

  9. Well, Eve is the mother of all human kind in the bible.

So in a way she's your average tragic-flaw heroine.  Her flaw is her naivety and curiosity.  But she's still the woman that gave birth to the race of humans outside the garden of eden.

Jezebel on the other hand, is portrayed as more of a villian.  There isn't really any redeeming qualities.

That aside I think it's kind of a hideous name anyway.

  10. no

go with your heart and what you think the baby will love and not be embarrassed about.

  11. jezebel just doesnt sound good. :(

  12. I'm not Christian and I would NEVER have thought of any bible character when hearing that name. Maybe I just don't live in a very religious area, but I don't even know who that is. I have a friend named Cane, but when I told someone else his name (a friend in the US - I live in Canada) they were appalled that someone would name their child Cane! I actually really like it. Anyway... if you like it, who cares? Go for it!

  13. dont care what other people think about. its what YOU think about it.
