i'm a girl, and i was thinking of trying out for my high school wrestling team this year. it sounds pretty fun :]. i actually haven't had any wrestling experience...but i take martial arts, and i've done basic grappling. (in other words, i only know a couple of moves.) do you think i'll be able to learn how to wrestle in time for tryouts in winter? do you think i can become good enough to make the team? where can i learn how to wrestle then?

  1. You'll be fine.  With your martial arts you will have a heads up due to the discipline and balance it teaches you.  Additionally, if you are able to learn a martial art you will be able to learn the moves needed to be a good high school wrestler.

I would recommend getting started right away.  You should pick up the basic moves in plenty of time.  I would get with your schools wrestling coach now and ask if he knows anyone in the area that may be able to give you private lessons.  You can also go to the second link below and contact the wrestling organization in your state for advise.

Finally if you do decide to take up wrestling,i recommend you attending a wrestling camp next summer.  It will  help you to grow as a wrestler by leaps and bounds stay with it and don't give up.

Go get em, you'll do great.
