I am huge on clean and healthy teeth. I take care of my teeth and I noticed my fiancee has a black line that goes across the second to last tooth on her bottom set of teeth, on both sides. When she comes to the US (she lives in Mexico), I am going to take her to my dentist, but..........

1) Is this decay/plaque easy for a dentist to get rid of?

2) Can the dentist get rid of this blackness in one cleaning?

  1. I think that if you really love her you wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'd take her to the dentist to make sure it's nothing health-harmful. But if they can't remove the stain, love her for her flaws.

  2. doesn't that mean cavity??

  3. It is mostly likely some stain which is commonly referred to as "black line stain" which the cause is unknown, but is thought to be due to higher amounts of iron in the body, and it also mostly affects women. She probably just needs a cleaning, its great that you are getting this done for her.

  4. yes it is very easy to get rid of it

some people's teeth just stain easily like mine

    and get plaque very easily

when you go to the dentist ask to get your teeth cleaned

    and it will be gone

  5. Could it be that whatever water she consumed in Mexico had high levels of iron? Only a dentist can determine how long it will take to remove these marks. Are they superficial stains or something under the enamel? If it's superficial, crest white strips may help. If it's under the enamel, I would consult a cosmetic dentist.

  6. This is most likely calculus/ tartar buildup. The blackness happens when it is forming beneath the gumline. It sometimes builds from out the gumline in this color too. Easiness of removing depends on how heavy the buildup is. If she hasn't had a dental cleaning by a dental hygienist in a long time this could mean she needs a deep cleaning. She should go soon b/c the black buildup usually is associated with gum disease and bone loss. It could also be a cavity. If she lives in Mexico, it is highly unlikely she has had her teeth cleaned properly EVER.
