  1. I was on Yasmin for a total of two months...and I'll tell you that I would rather the blood clot formations that Diane-35 gave me over the side effects I got from this pill!!

Yasmin has a diuretic in it to help prevent weight gain (since most weight gain from the bcp is through water retention and the diruetic gets rid of this water weight).  For a lot of people, this diuretic is too strong and causes IBS (in which happened to me).

Like you, Yasmin made my face break out massively!  It was so intense that I didn't even want to leave my bedroom.  It also caused incredibly dry, flakey skin especially on my cheeks (it probably didn't help that it was wintertime and it's incredibly dry in winter in Ontario, Canada...but still!!).

As for your period, see what happens when you go onto the inactive pills.  Chances are, you will stop bleeding (had this problem on Alesse).  If, however, next month the same thing happens, I'd contact your doctor and say that this pill is not right for you.  Yes, breakthrough bleeding is very common with all birth control pills, bleeding almost continually throughout the month usually is a good indicator that this pill is not right for you.

  2. ok I'm on the pill for the same reason and have been taking it for about 2 years. it takes about 3 months for it to start working so its probably no big deal. but if you're worried then go to your doctor

  3. I'm 21, I've been on the Pill for a year and a half. My doctor just switched me to the generic for Yasmin.  I'm going to start taking it Monday, actually :)

ANYWAY... The weight gain from the Pill is usually two pounds or less (scientifically proven) so you really don't have to worry about a big explosion of weight.  The breakout IS being caused by the increase in hormones and by your age and natural hormone flux.  To combat: wash your face daily (use a washcloth to scrub lightly) and gentle acne-fighting soap.  Splash your face with cold water after a hot shower so the pores will close and your skin won't dry out (a buildup of dead skin and body oil causes pimples as the pores get backed-up).  You'll still have break outs but they will come and go more quickly.

As far as the spotting, it is entirely okay.  Your body takes a minimum of 1 month to regulate, so you will not see a difference until then.  Breakthrough bleeding (a light period) is totally normal because of the increased hormones-- your body is asking, "Wha??!"

In my case, I was taking the generic for Loestrin Fe and my period was a little unpredictable for about two months, then everything was fine for a year and THEN, everything went to heck and my period was totally unpredictable!  That's why my doctor switched me because the hormone dosage was too low and it was enough to keep me from getting pregnant but not enough to fully control my period.

Yasmin is a higher dose, so you should not encounter that problem once your hormones get used to it.  It is unusual to bleed for more than 14 days, so if the breakthrough bleeding continues, or if you feel ill, call your doctor and let her know what's going on.  She'll be able to tell you what you need to do next.

    Good luck!

  4. Yasmin is birthcontrol and if you are taking it to regulate your periods then you should wait it out and let it work.  It will take your body some time getting used to the pill.

In my opinion the risks out weigh the reward here.  One, your periods are not irregular because you are overweight!  If that is what your doctor said then he just doesn't know what he is talking about.  I am 240 pounds and I have a very regular 29 day cycle and I have no infertility issues at all.  If gaining weight is an issue to you then you should go on a diet INSTEAD of taking the pill.  If you are breaking out with acne and still bleeding after two weeks... maybe you should reconsider the choice to be on Yasmin..?  It seems to be doing more harm than good.

I lost 70 pounds on a reduced calorie diet in 4 and a half months.  I have since gained it all back... but that is a whole nother story lol.  Anyway, maybe you should try that out.
