Girls, need help- contraceptive patch!?

Hi girls

well i have posted various questions similar to this one if you look at my profile, but i need help

I was on the contraceptive injection for 4 years since i was 13. i am now 17 and continue to have the same boyfriend.

In one of my other questions i asked for advice on whether to continue to take the jab or change.

most people told me to come off it because of the negative side affects (bone density, infertility)

so today i went to the doctor and asked her opinion, she said that it was true about the injection.

i have decided to use the contraceptive patch as the pill is out of the question as i would never remember, even with an alarm on my mobile, and i find it confusing as you have to stop the pill for a week and wait for your period.

So i have decided to use the patch.

I am going to buy it tonight. is there anything i should know before using them? and how does it work, you use it for 3 weeks, changing every week and then you get a period for the last week? and from when are you covered? if its straight away then when you stop for your period do you have to be careful and use a condom?

Please give me your experiences and any info that might be relevant.

Thanks a lot!

xxxx

  1. My sister used the patch and it left horrible marks on her skin, just a warning. x

The marks didnt come off with any amount of scrubbing she had to wait months and months fro them to fade.. the doctor advised her to stop taking it because of it.

  2. I used the patch. It would never stay on for the entire week.  And the adhesive gave me a rash which gave me scars that I still have 4 years later.  And there have been a lot of things about how having all those hormones on your skin for so long is really bad for you.

    I do NOT recommend it
