  1. I'm a bloke.  My wife and I find it easy to use hers.  Practice is the key.  Get a load of scrap material and go wild :)

  2. It depends entirely on the sewing machine.  There's a staggering amount of diversity in sewing machines, and they come from all eras, companies, and levels of user-friendliness.

My mother has an older one, and although I found loading the thread and bobkin difficult, actually making the thing sew after that wasn't tough.  Making a decent piece of clothing, however, was!  I wound up sticking to napkins, buttons, table cloths, and stuffed animals.  I gave up the practice as soon as she wasn't paying attention.

Of the three of us, my brother turned out to be the best tailor . . . but gave up the practice as soon as he learned it was "women's work."

I wish I had some skill at sewing every time Halloween comes around, but for the most part I'll leave it to people who enjoy the work.

  3. It's a lot easier that when I first stated (aged 9) with a treadle singer sewing machine.  It is easy once you get the hang of it, just practise until you feel ready to do some serious stuff.  I bet you pick it up in no time and you will enjoy it immensely.

  4. Using a sewing machine isn't difficult for girls, or for boys, women or men either.  It takes practice to use it well.

  5. Most of the kids I teach find it quite easy to get the hang of the basics.  Then they go wild and have a ball!

I was seven when I first used one, and it wasn't hard for me, even though the machine was somewhat eccentric and temperamental.  Some people find it much harder than others and some machines are easier to use than others.

I teach boys as well as girls.  My son started when he was 10, and made a pair of jeans last year, aged 12.  He made some simple light weight pull-on trousers a couple of weeks back...  He also uses the serger.  If he can learn, anyone can, girl or bloke, of any age from about 7 up to 98.

  6. Is this a sexist question or what?  Assuming that only girls use sewing machines?  So, do you also assume that all mechanics are men?  Just giving you a hard time.  But, to answer your question, sewing machines, in general, aren't hard to use.  Give it a few runs and you will figure it out.

  7. I don't find using my sewing machine a problem. I find the biggest problem is cutting the material right in the first place, the pedal on your machine lets you go as fast or as slow as you like. Sewing straight is just practice. Threading the machine should be in the instruction book you get with it and is relatively easy.

  8. Well, I'm rubbish at it when we do it in school. I can't load it, I cant sew in a straight line and I always get it all tangled up, but some people just seem to be able to do it first time round. Whey do you think I chose art for my options, not textiles.

  9. its quite easy yes. just start off slowly and simply. then work your way up to more intricate work. i taught myself how to make austrian blinds. my mum loves them

  10. Once you know how to read it up it is as easy as pie!

  11. I DONT

BUT MY CUZ DOSE SHES A SEWING MACHINE GEEK!

  12. I personally find it very easy. I think it depends a lot on the person and the machine. Some sewing machines are a little more user friendly then others. I remember when I was learning how to use a sewing machine, it was little bit confusing at first, but it got easier with practice. I think you have to have patients when learning how to use a sewing machine, and be willing to try it again, and again.

  13. no its not. at all.

  14. as someone who tried it and failed miserably! NO ITS NOT

  15. i find it easy.

by the way why did you write.... girls, is it easy?

the title of your question annoyed me a bit

  16. It's easy and if your having a problem then you could aways take a class or 2 ;)))))

  17. i dunno..

cos we did it in school last year and everyone was getting perfect straight lines, yet i was getting wonky ,lines and getting the thread all tangled up.

    personally, NO ITS NOT!..

  18. yes piece of cake

    learnt the basics by myself

    try practicing on paper :)

  19. I say it is as hard as you make it.  I am someone who taught my self to sew.  and I have only been doing it for about 7 months, but I think I am doing a good job.  I make mistakes and I mess things up still.  I would recommend getting some cheap material and easy patterns and go from there.  When you get stuck , there are several ways to get help use the book that cam with your machine, call a friend or family member or heck I have even used the net to help me understand what I need to do.  I can even help you and if I can not figure it out I will search until I do.  So drop me an email if you need the help .  Good luck!  you will love it, give it a try!!!

  20. eh nt realy sum pepole catch on quicker than others!
