okay extremely sexist question but still? dont they? ive ntoiced that guys like to fight a LOT harder and tend to loose their cool and injure their opponent more often. well once in a competition i had this guy get really angry he could not hit me and come in with a full force side kick and brake a rib (ouch!)

my instructor once hit me to hard in the head with a spinning back kick and gave me a concusion! not to mention this new guy i'm fighting all the time who constantly does multiple punches to the head :P

as for the girls i know? the worst injury i ever got was maybe tripping over a little kid running behind me as i was kicking....

so do girls and guys fight different? if so, why?

  1. Yes they do and it has to do with men have more natural physical strength than women. Its just part of nature. Even though there are a few women Ive met that I would not wnat to fight because they would tear me to shreds.

  2. Because of genetics.

Guys are physically stronger, therefore they hit harder, also they are more aggressive due to higher testosterone levels.

  3. I think it has to do with strength, flexibility, and the fact that statistically on average women (adults) are a little shorter than men (adults).

Men are physically stronger, but are most often less flexible than women, especially in the hips, lower back, and legs.  The lack of flexibility limits what men can do with their legs (as opposed to women fighters anyhow).  So men rely more on their hands and arms because they are not only stronger, they are "easier" for them to use from a flexibility standpoint.

The height factor also plays some role - there are certain things you just physically can't do as a shorter fighter to a taller fighter (without risking getting clocked...) so a shorter fighter's style has to be a little different to succeed.

That and guys don't like getting beat up by girls (which is my guess as to why some guys/idiots are breaking your ribs or knocking you out in "sparring" sessions).  It's frustrating for some people to get "beat up" by someone smaller than them (like a girl)  I guess?

  4. There is not much difference in styles of two similarly trained people (boy or girl).  However a 125 lb boy will hit harder than and 125 lb girl.  This is due to the boys having denser bones and muscle fibers.

Also, 125 lb girl will be bigger than and 125 lb boy so what tends to happen is, in the gym or studio they match you up by visual size. This means that you get a boy and a girl that look like they are the same size but in reality the boy will out weigh the girl by quite a bit.  So it may be a 140 lb boy against a 125 lb girl.  This is what makes the difference.

So once the girl gets hit by the boy she tends to become more defensive and the boy then becomes that much more aggressive. Also the girl can not hit the boy as hard as other boys have hit him so he tends to walk right through the lighter girls kicks or punches that she is throwing tentatively already.

Same size does not equal same weight.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Girls and guys fight differently because of both nature and nurture. Women have a lower center of gravity. They usually are more flexible and can kick higher more easily. This is of course a generalization.

Partly because of how girls are treated they also have more inhibition about really pummeling someone. I have a lot of difficulty getting women in self defense classes to jump ugly when they are supposed to. They seem to not want to really use full force even when I am all padded up. It takes a longer time for them to work through this than the average male student of same age and background. As for completion on the mat Ive been kicked in the back after winning three rounds with some jerk. Sometimes people get carried away. Just be careful to block those blows to take out some of the bite. By the way in point sparing head blows are not permitted or are they?
