hi, i am 14 and will be 15 in the summer and i have always wanted to play ice hockey. my dad and my brother play, and i have been very well exposed to the sport and how it works. i have been practicing outside on my driveway just puckhandling and shooting, and i will be taking a summer skating class soon. however, i have been doing ballet and pointe for 8 years now and i think i will have good balance on skates. my mom really doesnt want me to play because she wants me to stick with ballet, and she will be really disappointed that i want to do hockey instead. i know this is something i am serious about, and i was just wondering if you can give me some tips on conditiong (off ice) and some things i need to know about starting ice hockey.

oh yea, i know it is expenisve because of my brother and dad, but i will probably get some used equipment if after the skating classes i really think i want to take an ice hockey class or something.

  1. ice hocky is a blast. my neighbors play hocky though they are much older than me and a lot bigger i still go out and play hocky with them. its the funnest sport i have done too. what i would do to practice is get some inline skates(i prefer the soft weels) just so you can get used to skating with a hocky stick in your hands and try to drible with the skates. and a puck is too flat to use on concrete me and my friends used tennis ball that seemed to work best. try it you will love it. and if you dont you can always go back

  2. practice with others.  lots of skating will help. do you want to be forward, d, or goalie?

  3. HOCKEY AND LACROSSE ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  THEY ARE THE BEST SPORTS YOU WILL EVER PLAY IN YOUR LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. once you start hockey, you're hooked for life. and it'll be hard especially if you've never skated before so dont give up. once you have the skating down then the rest is easier to pick up. now its not easy so you're gunna have to try. but off ice, you might like to do lundges, running, anything to strengthen your legs and thigh muscles. then work on upper body core strength. but im 14 too and i've been playing since 2nd grade, so have fun and definitly play!
