€170 million
FC Girondins de Bordeaux are set to move into their new stadium by mid-2015, as the club have recently launched construction at their new site. The club administration were willing to loosen their purse strings as they agreed for the €170 million project
that’s set to complete in a span of three years.
Bordeaux are provided with an area of 18.7 hectares for their new stadium by the city government. The French outfit is seeking to expand their current capacity. And it seems like that the club will have to undergo the task of constructing a new stadium for
the fans, following the unavailability of space around Stade Chaban-Delmas.
Les Girondins have been playing at their current stadium since 1938. The stadium was named Stade http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Du-c11689 Parc Lescure since its construction. However, it was later renamed to Chaban-Delmas in honour of former Bordeaux mayor, Jacques Chaban Delmas. The stadium
has a capacity of nearly 35,000, being renovated on three several occasions.
The Ligue 1 outfit have yet to name their new stadium, as no pre-determined name has surfaced yet for the home of FCGB. The construction is set to complete by 2015, with the stadium ready to host games by the start of the 2012/16 season.
Club President, Jean-Louis Triaud said:
“When you see the size of this site, you can be enthusiastic and excited. This stage will be a wonderful tool not only for us but also for other sports in the region. I just hope we have the team to the height to be worthy of this gem."
The new stadium is expected to seat 43,500 spectators, and will cost the club around €170 million. The popularity of French Ligue 1 has increased in the last decade, and the club finds it necessary to create more room for accommodating their fans.
Bordeaux had a solid start to the 2012/13 campaign. However, the club’s failure to register a single victory in their five games has raised serious concerns for them. Les Girondins are currently tied at 7th spot along with fellow Ligue 1 clubs
including http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lille-OSC-c39800 and OGC Nice.
