Arsenal’s scout, Gilles Grimandi has gone to admit that the North London club went on to sign Olivier Giroud to replace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380.
The scout admitted that the team were uncertain over what Van Persie wanted to do in the future, but still knew that he might end up pushing for a move out of the club.
As a result, the team went on to sign Giroud as a direct replacement for the Dutch international.
The twenty eight year old went on to score a very impressive thirty goals in the league last season, but with his contract set to run out next year, he admitted that he didn’t have any intentions of extending his stay with the team.
It was previously believed that Giroud was signed to play alongside Van Persie, but it has now been confirmed that the forward was signed to be a replacement for Van Persie.
Grimandi, when talking about the capture of the striker is quoted to have said: “Was the recruitment of Giroud made to compensate for his [Van Persie’s] departure? Yes, we worked to avoid being cornered.”
“We want him to stay home but he is left with one year on his contract so it is complicated.”
“At http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, there is a healthy atmosphere, he’s been here for eight years and he has a real commitment to the club.”
At the same time, he went on to reveal that Arsenal could let the Dutchman leave, should the right bid be made to acquire his services.
“If there is a great offer and if he wants to leave, it will be difficult to keep him,” Grimandi added.
“I would never have thought that players such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Thiago-Silva-c34903 [the AC Milan defender] could be transferable and that was the case at a time. There are parameters you cannot handle.”
Based on the way things are shaping up, it seems like Van Persie is now more than likely going to leave the team this summer, despite the club claiming that they will make sure that the player sees out his contract with the team.
