The Montpellier Herault striker has leap to the defence of teammate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Souleymane-Camara-c33845 who missed the penalty in the 2-2 draw with Evian TG a few days back
Montpellier Herault is a group of players who have been together for 3-4 years with tremendous solidarity. However, this fine facade was shattered by the statements of Younes Belhanda who criticised Olivier Giroud and Souleymane http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Camara-c8277.
The Moroccan international was sent off moments before the end of the game against Evian TG. La Paillade were awarded a penalty kick before Belhanda’s sending off. After the Moroccan, it was Olivier Giroud’s task to convert the resulting penalty kick to
make it 3-2. However, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 international gave the ball to Camara whose kick was saved.
Belhanda was not impressed with how his side lost the chance to get all three points and said that Giroud fought with him for the penalty and then gave it to Camara who should have scored from the spot.
“It’s their fault. It was a chance to hand us the title and he did not shoot. It was for him to take the responsibility,” said Belhanda while talking to L’Equipe.
Disgusted to miss the crucial end to the season, Belhanda’s mood is not really good these days. However, Olivier Giroud is not really impressed with the way his teammate has gone about things by publicly criticising his teammates.
After that game, President Louis Nicollin brought the players together in the dressing room and five minutes later, Belhanda left the scene without uttering a single word.
While talking to RMC, Giroud stepped up to defend his teammate Camara. The Frenchman says that Camara took the penalty because he was not feeling confident.
“Souley asked me to take it (penalty kick). I was perhaps less confident to do that so he said, ‘I’ll take it’. We’re adults and I did not want to fight with him.”
The end of the season is near and now was certainly not the right time for Belhanda to go public on his teammates who have been with him for such a long time. This small issue could also strike a major blow on the club’s Championelle hopes.
