Gisela Dulko and Greta Arn advance at Abierto Mexicano Telcel Tennis Tournament
Fourth seed Gisela Dulko started her campaign in great style as she secured a thumping 6-3, 6-1 win over Anna Tatishvili to sail into the next round of the Abierto Mexicano Telcel Tennis Championships 2011 being held in Mexico.
Dulko required only 65 minutes to beat her Georgian opponent in straight sets.
The Australian Open 2011 Doubles Champion and the number one doubles player started the match in an aggressive fashion.
She managed to break Tatishvili early on in the first set and then held on to the lead to finish with one set up on the board. In the second set, she was even better, not giving her opponent any chance to come back into the contest. The Argentinean took
the set 6-1 to seal a comfortable win.
Gisela Dulko has put up some thrilling performances over the last few years. With a crushing win in the first match, she will certainly be feeling confident and should be considered as one of the favourites for this tournament.
Meanwhile, Greta Arn of Germany recorded a clinical straight set 6-4, 6-1 victory over her Romanian opponent, Edina Gallovits-Hall to cruise into the next round of the tournament.
Greta pushed her opponent to the baseline and then used her backhand and forehand effectively. The 31-year-old German has been in supreme form in the last few months. She achieved her career high ranking of world number 58 earlier in 2011 following her win
in Auckland.
The Spanish Silvia Soler Espinosa also defeated American veteran Jill Craybas in straight sets. Silvia, who ranks 159 in the world, showed great presence of mind as she made the 36-year-old run hard for every point. Defeating a player ranked higher than
herself so convincingly would surely boost her morale.
Other notable winner of the day was Lesia Tsurenko who was awarded a win after Melanie Oudin retired during the second set.
