Gisela Dulko outplays Kathrin Woerle to clear round one - XX Copa BBVA Colsanitas 2012
Argentine tennis star, Gisela Dulko, bounced back from a set down to overpower the German age fellow, Kathrin Woerle, in the opening round of the XX Copa BBVA Colsanitas tournament. The 68th ranked Argentine turned the
tables on her opponent after a miserable opening set performance; winning the match 1-6, 6-2, 6-4.
First face-off between the two players at the clay courts of Bogota, Colombia, is going to be a special encounter that will remain in their minds of tennis fans for a long time. They contested in good spirit and the deserving player
progressed ahead to the second round of the tournament. A considerable number of people turned at the sporting arena to witness the two tennis divas battling it out to advance in the tournament.
The 184th ranked German, Woerle, commenced the opening set with a successful serve game. The fifth seed, Dulko, won the first two points on her serve but her opponent gobbled up the following four points to register
the maiden breakpoint of the set. The German soon built upon that lead and bagged the third game as well that dismantled the confidence of the Argentine.
The following of the first set were dominated mostly by the German who bagged another breakpoint and ousted her opponent completely; sparing just one game for her opponent. Trailing one set down, the Argentine looked extremely
frustrated with herself; failing to fire in the first serves with accuracy that forced her to compromise on pace on her second serves.
Dulko started the second set proceedings with a successful serve game. It was a competitive battle in the second part of the match. Both players capitalized on their respective serves for the first five games with the Argentine
tennis ace leading the scores at 3-2. Woerle was ready to fire in her third serve game but was surprised to witness a sudden outbreak of her opponent, who stunned everyone with a couple of devastating down the line winners. Dulko broke her rival’s serve and
enhanced the lead with a successful hold in the seventh game, taking the scores to 5-2 in her favour.
The German served to stay in the set but failed to perform the basics right; committed silly unforced errors that gifted another breakpoint and the set to her opponent. The third set was clearly running in favour of the Argentine
who had the momentum with her. Although the German fought back to level the scores at 4-4 but her nervy play gifted another breakthrough to her opponent that confirmed the second round spot for the Argentine.
