Giuseppe Saronni upset by Team Lampre-ISD performance
Team Lampre-ISD Manager Giuseppe Saronni has shown frustration after the team’s poor performance at the UCI Road World Championships at the team’s time trial event.
The team went with a 100% Italian squad including Matteo Bono, Davide Cimolai, Adriano Malori, Alessandro Petacchi, Daniele Pietropolli and Davide Vigano for the race.
It finished the 53.2 kilometre race at the 28th position, fifth from bottom and was a huge disappointment for the Italian fans.
Team Omega Pharma-Quickstep claimed the top position after finishing the race in an impressive time of 1:03:17.17.
Team BMC finished 3 seconds behind at the second spot with Team Orica-GreenEdge, Team Liquigas-Cannondale, Team Rabobank, Team Movistar, Team Katusha, Team RadioShack-Nissan, Team Sky Procycling and Team Garmin-Sharp occupying the next spots in the respective
order.
"I didn't expect to be at any level close to the teams that finished in the top quarter of the classification, but a poor showing such like this does not reflect the team's value,” said a disappointed Saronni after the event.
“This season has been scarce with satisfactory results for our outfit, so I was hoping for a show of pride: but we need a change on a technical as well as a sporting level," Saronni said.
“We knew we couldn't compete with the teams that are much more specialized in this type of competition, but we thought we'd do a little bit better than what we showed today".
Team Lampre-ISD has not performed up to the expectations all through the 2012 season and could not secure any better than the 14th overall position after the UCI World Tour team’s rankings.
It has only managed to register 431 UCI Points with Damiano Cunego (184 points), Michele Scarponi (184 points), Diego Ulissi (30 points), Alessandro Petacchi (18 points) and Przemyslaw Niemiec (15 points) making the major contributions.
Team Sky Procycling is leading the category with a huge lead of 1205 points over Team Lampre-ISD.
Team Liquigas-Cannondale is at the second position with 1178 UCI points whereas; Team Katusha, Team Omega Pharma-Quick Step and Team Movistar occupied the next three positions with 1173, 1066 and 941 points respectively.
