With critics calling for his resignation, among them http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chinnadupargea-Sachin-c50607 should have retired after the World Cup, the veteran batsman seems to be succumbing to the pressure – his highest score in the recent tri-series Down Under was 48, among
other disappointing scores such as 2, 3, and 14. However, Richards is confident that Tendulkar will succeed in making history.
“The milestone which has eluded him over a period of time will come … He needs to be given an opportunity to accomplish that. He deserves it because of the contribution he has made to the game,” Richards said.
Critics have slammed Tendulkar for being selfish and imposing himself upon the squad for the sole purpose of establishing the record. However, Richards countered this by pointing out that it was a very special record, which Sachin was very close to, and
thus should be given an opportunity to work for.
“It's a huge milestone and you will only get an opportunity to pass this way once,” the legendary batsman pointed out.
Advocating patience, he pointed out that Tendulkar was an asset to the Indian team, and his absence, after such a long and fruitful career, would be keenly felt.
“You have to be patient with him. Sachin has been around for so long that when he goes, he is going to be sadly missed. So, while you have him now, why not enjoy him till the very end?”
While many have been calling for his axing, the 38-year-old has been included in the squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, where he will get yet another opportunity to complete his 100 centuries.
