  1. Appropriate practice, could include teaching a child to hold a small shovel to scoop sand. An inappropriate developmental activity could be; depending on the age, teaching a child to cut cardboard.

  2. Check out NAEYC website on DAP.

  3. DAP:Add graph paper and pencils to your unit blocks or turn your dramatic play area into a restaurant.  Bring in take out menus and add little pads of paper and pencils and a cash register with play money.

Non-DAP: Any project where you expect them to follow an adult created model.  Coloring worksheets.

  4. A developmentally appropriate activity is an activity that is right for the age and skills of the child.

Example of appropriate activity for a 2 year old: one where you ask the child or children to show you where different body parts are.  For example, where their nose or ears are.

Inappropriate activity for a 2 year old:  playing Simon Says and expecting them to be able to follow the rules (touch their ears when you say Simon Says, but not touch them when you don't say Simon Says)
