  1. If you define "up" to be positive motion, an object would have a negative initial velocity and a negative acceleration if you threw it downwards from a height.


  2. you cannot have a negative velocity, just a negative change in velocity.  

  3. If you define "down" to be positive motion, then if you through a projectile upwards, then the change of velocity per time (ie. acceleration) will be negative.  

  4. when a car slows down it is decelerating i.e the velocity is being reduced as well as aceleration( deceleration is -ve )
