  1. well, it really depends on how old the people that you want to discipline are...

younger children: what u should do is give rewards to the really good kids, and for the bad kids, you say your gonna do something bad, but unless it was really really bad, don't actually do it. Kids get so worked up about that. It's a great punishment.

older kids: just take away something that's really important to them and get something new to replace it. Make sure that thing sets a good example.

older people: don't worry about older people.. their punishment will come to them without you doing anything... when someone does something i don't like, i always end up seeing a consequence of that act.

  3. whatever strategies you use, the most important thing is that you are firm, fair and consistent.  Children become confused when adults are not consistent with their expectations.  The rules should be firm and easy to understand.  We use time out in our home, which proves to be very effective with our three and four year old girls.  We do this by having them sit in a designated spot.  The girls understand that they must sit still without talking for the designated time (we use one minute for each year they are old).  We set a timer and when the timer goes off, we ask the girls why they are in time out.  They explain what they feel that they have done wrong and are encouraged to come up with examples of more appropriate behavior.  We always end a time out with a hug and an "I love you" and encourage them to make better choices.
