Give examples of times and purposes when various diplomatic notes are used?

I have read the definition of such notes, but still somewhat confused as to when they are used, why they might be used, and at what times it is appropriate. Can anyone give examples and further elaborate on uses of diplomatic notes?

Such as:

First Person Notes

Demarche

Note Verbales

Memorandum

Aide-Memoria

Pro-Memoria

Note Diplomatique

Circular Diplomatic Note

etc.

  1. A diplomatic note is used when one government wishes to communicate formally, in writing, with another government.
