Grades do not reflect how smart a person is but how hard they work.

  1. The argument lies in how "smart" is defined.  I would argue that when you are judged on how hard you work (school, college, work, life), that the hardest worker is the smartest and the laziest worker is the dumbest.  In other words, smart people DO successful things with their knowledge.  

    I did a study in my graduate program to identify students who will struggle on the graduation test.  My findings indicated that the best predictor for success on the test was IQ.  So if good grades = good test scores, then IQ = good grades.

    While there surely are a few exceptions to this rule, this quote is mainly used as an excuse for students to perform poorly in class and still consider themselves smart (self-esteem boost, I guess).    

        


  2. im a straight c student, yet ive been told many times by many people im brilliant, im just lazy, and i often cant put to words my thoughts, like with math we always have to write down our work, not just the answer, they teach a process of figuring it out that i dont like, so i make a new one, it works just as well, yet i get the question wrong because i didnt do the steps correctly. i think that if i can come up with a new way of solving math problems, im at least competent.
