Give me reasons on why music should and should'nt be free?

Shouldnt because people work to put it together. But, in the 90's CD's were WAY overpriced!

If it were free there would be nobody singing professionally because they would have to get jobs to support themselves.  SO no I don't think it should be free.  If a person puts the work into learning an instrument, practicing singing, paying for recording studios and equipment to make a CD.  Why should they give it away??  That is like asking you to work for nothing because everyone wants the services you provide but don't feel they should pay you for it.

Well, 'free' as in 'freedom' means that musicians should be able to do whatever they want with their aesthetic products.  If there is a market and a demand they should be free to make use of their talents.

Should be:

-Gives people a more open mind

-Allows people to get to know themselves and their style

-You can get music anytime you want or need it so it's easy to have a lot of it

Shouldn't be:

-Doesn't give the bands and people the money they should get for their music

-Doesn't allow people to have more secretive bands that they only know

-I guess cuz it's illegal

Music should be free if it's not sold by the artist directly, because most of the money goes to the company selling the music, even though they didn't make the song.  

Going on tour or doing gigs is actually more profitable for most artists than selling music.  The exception is huge pop stars, but most artists are not huge pop stars.

I like what Johnathon Coulton does.  He gets his music licensed by the Creative Commons and makes it available to listen to for free online.  He asks for Paypal donations on his site, and does shows, and probably makes a lot of money from both.

The gift of playing music is free and listening to it is,,,, gifted people that can play or sing is just that a gift.... As being sold for money,, isnt that what everyone wants? MONEY!!

its pretty sad but the people who are gifted enough to be able to play or sing music is there business and thats how they live, So no their gift of being  who and what they are shouldnt be free if thats how they make a living!!  in the beginning its always free,, but they spend so much time in putting things together and all the money they put out for all the equipment and replacing all the equipment that goes bad they need the money,, i hope this makes sense to u lol

It should be free but having advertisments on it. Like if you watch a advertisment for 20 secounds you listen to the song once. Then they could get the money from the people who wants there things advertised yet we still get to listen to there songs. They would probably make more money because everyone these days gets music from the internet.
