my suggestion would be fishing vertically this time of year and with each drop below holding your line and dropping it by the seconds counted to a new depth with each drop until you find the depth of the thermocline where the cold water structured animal you seek is going to need to be in order to stay alive in the hot summer waters. I would use split shots below my bait and mabey even use two separate bait rigs five feet apart on my rod and of course power bait. they will be deep over 30 feet is my guess and if you don't find them, your boat is in the wrong area.
